UPPER POTTSGROVE ELECTIONS—There are three Board of Commissioner seats up this year as well as the Tax Collector position in Upper Pottsgrove Township. The requirements for these offices are to be a resident of the Township and to be of voting age. The Board of Commissioners is made up of five members elected in odd years with three elected this year and two in 2027. The Board meets at least once a month with a host of other requirements depending on the commissioner’s additional roles.
The Tax Collector collects for three entities: the Township, the School District, and the County. As you may be aware, bills come out twice a year, one for the Township and County, and one for the School District. The Tax Collector receives these funds, deposits them in the Tax Collector’s account, then delivers them to the appropriate taxing authority. The Tax Collector is responsible for reporting the amounts to the taxing authorities as well as providing any additional information they request. The salary breakdown for 2023 was: Township, $10,000, (plus supplies and free office space); School District, $25,762.07; and County, $10,646.05. Additional income comes through tax certification letters and duplicate bill fees. The current compensation estimate for Tax Collector is between $50,000 to $60,000. The Commissioners have asked for a public briefing from the Tax Collector concerning the position and process but it has not occured.
The process to run for these positions is relatively simple. Both positions, commissioner and tax collector, require only ten signatures on the nominating petition. The signers must be of the same party as the candidate and the individual circulating the petition, whether the candidate or someone else, must sign the petition form as the circulator. The nomination petition forms are available on the county’s voter service website. The collection period for signatures this year is from Feb 18th to Mar 11th.

Election Day is May 20th; the general election is Nov 4th.
