Stormwater Improvements Along Evans Rd

You might have noticed construction and large piping along Evans Rd at the intersection of Evans and West Moyer Rd.  This is one of two stormwater projects the Township has done with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds—Federal dollars channeled through the states to local governments.  The other stormwater project that the Township completed was along Pineford Rd.

The additional expenditures utilizing ARPA funds include the purchases of a police car and radios.  The Township Manager, Michelle Reddick, has orchestrated the funds deployment; the total Township allocation of ARPA funds was $604,380.

Mr. Al Gryga, the Director of Landscape Architecture & Planning with Chester Valley Engineers, the firm that focuses on the Township’s 238 acres, commented on the Evans Road stormwater project: “The purpose of the Evans Improvement Project is to enhance the existing drainage system located along Evans and West Moyer Roads. The proposed improvements include the construction of a vegetated swale along Evans Road to facilitate better stormwater conveyance and reduce localized flooding.”

He went on to say “Additional stormwater improvements include the installation of new storm pipes, inlets, and a vegetated swale located along West Moyer Road. To ensure proper discharge and minimize erosion, the collected stormwater runoff will be directed to Sprogels Run through a stabilized riprap apron, thereby enhancing overall water flow management and environmental sustainability.”

Ms Reddick commented on the Township’s challenges with stormwater saying “Stormwater runoff is an ongoing issue within the Township and we devote a lot of time and energy working the solutions.” She went on to say “This is done through our public works team in coordination with our engineers.”
